About this project

Taylorsville City—in coordination with Murray City, West Valley City, Utah Transit Authority, Utah Department of Transportation, Salt Lake Community College (SLCC), Salt Lake County, and Wasatch Front Regional Council—is preparing an Environmental Study Report (ESR) and design for a new bus rapid transit (BRT) facility from Murray Central Station to the SLCC Redwood Campus in Taylorsville to the West Valley Central Station.

BRT, or bus rapid transit, is an enhanced bus service that is faster and more reliable than regular bus services. Features include:

  • Faster, more frequent service (5- to 15-minute frequency)
  • Exclusive, bus-only lanes for faster travel and to prevent delay from mixed traffic congestion
  • Full-service stations with adequate shelters and seating
  • Off-board fare collection at the station
  • Transit signal priority at intersections to reduce delays caused to buses by turning vehicles

BRT is relatively new to Utah with several BRT lines active including  3500 South MAX.  Take a look at the most recent BRT line coming to Utah County: Utah Valley Express

The Midvalley Connector project will extend and refine the Locally Preferred Alternative (LPA) previously identified in the 2013 Taylorsville-Murray Transit ESR, which consisted of a BRT route from Murray Central Station to the SLCC Redwood Campus. The project will identify a preferred route and station locations from the SLCC Redwood Campus to West Valley Central Station, prepare an ESR for the full BRT route, and begin preliminary design.

The approximately 7-mile BRT route will include:

  • 1.4 miles of center-running, exclusive BRT lanes with center stations along 4700 South
  • Urban design elements and a complete street corridor along 4500/4700 South west of I-15 from approximately Atherton Drive to Redwood Road in Taylorsville
  • An enhanced transit plaza at the SLCC Redwood Campus
  • Up to 15 new stations
  • Connections to regional TRAX and FrontRunner transit service at both the Murray Central Station and the West Valley Central Station
